Minn Kota prop finder

Select your motor details to see documented prop possibilities.

Choosing a replacement Minn Kota trolling motor prop starts with identifying your exact motor, not simply choosing a prop that looks like the old one. Motor series, thrust rating, lower-unit diameter and serial-number prefix can all affect compatibility. This guide explains the prop families in Minn Kota’s selection guide, how to compare the specifications below, and how to replace and maintain your prop.

Need help identifying the right replacement? Text Lakeside Marine & Service at 815 246 2535 with your motor model, thrust rating, serial number and a photo of the existing prop.

Find your section

Which Minn Kota prop fits my trolling motor?

  1. Identify the complete motor model and thrust rating. A model-family name such as Terrova or Riptide is not enough by itself.
  2. Record the motor’s serial number. Serial-number prefixes distinguish compatible generations.
  3. Identify the lower-unit motor diameter. The measurements in this guide refer to the motor housing, not the outside diameter of the propeller blades.
  4. Compare the prop model, part number, replacement-kit number and required hardware. These are separate identifiers.
  5. Check the model-specific fitment notes below before ordering. If your exact motor or serial-number prefix is not listed, text us at 815 246 2535 so we can help confirm the correct prop.

Do not assume props with the same motor-diameter specification are interchangeable. For example, the discontinued MKP-24 and the MKP-33 both list a 4-inch motor diameter but use different hardware and shaft arrangements. Do not substitute one for the other.

Understand the prop families

Power Prop

Minn Kota lists the MKP-2 and MKP-37 Power Props as alternatives to specific Weedless Wedge models, not as universal replacements. The MKP-2 is interchangeable with the MKP-6 on the appropriate compatible motor, while the MKP-37 is interchangeable with the MKP-32 on the appropriate compatible motor. Always check the motor listing and serial-number conditions for the prop you plan to buy.

Weedless Wedge and Weedless Wedge 2

The guide covers the MKP-6, MKP-7 and MKP-8 Weedless Wedge props, the discontinued MKP-24, and the MKP-32, MKP-33 and MKP-38 Weedless Wedge 2 props. The MKP-32 uses swept-back, flared blades designed to move weeds away while conserving battery power, including at slow speeds. A shared family name does not establish fitment.

QUEST-specific props

The MKP-39 Weedless Prop and MKP-40 Power Prop are designed for 4-1/2-inch QUEST Series lower units. The MKP-39 is designed to move through vegetation and help prevent weeds wrapping around the prop and lower unit. The MKP-40 is designed for torque and efficiency. Do not substitute a conventional brushed-motor prop based only on thrust rating.

Prop and hardware reference

This table combines the manufacturer’s guide with our listing details and model-specific corrections. Match these specifications with the notes below. If your application is not listed, text us to confirm fitment before ordering. Older prop models may be discontinued; contact us for availability and replacement guidance.

“Part / prop number” identifies the Minn Kota part or prop; “Kit / SKU” gives the replacement-kit or ordering SKU used in our linked listing. Motor diameter refers to the lower-unit housing, not the width of the propeller blades.

On smaller screens, swipe the chart left or right to see every column. Tap a linked prop photo, prop name, replacement-kit number or hardware-kit photo to open its listing. MKP-24 is discontinued and has no product link.

How to replace a Minn Kota trolling motor prop

Safety first: disconnect all power before beginning any prop work or maintenance. Wear safety glasses and gloves. If you do not have the necessary tools, experience or skills, have a qualified Minn Kota Authorized Service Center perform the work.

The drive-pin steps below apply to motors that use a drive pin. The discontinued MKP-24 uses a D-shaped shaft with no shear/drive pin; do not apply the drive-pin steps to that shaft design. Follow the motor-specific instructions and contact us if you are unsure which setup you have.

Tools

Minn Kota specifies a 1/2-inch or 9/16-inch wrench, depending on model. A flat-blade screwdriver may be needed on a drive-pin setup if the prop drive pin is broken. Confirm the procedure and hardware for your motor before starting.

  1. Disconnect the positive motor lead from the battery before changing the propeller, and ensure the motor is disconnected from power.
  2. Hold the propeller securely and loosen the prop nut with an appropriate wrench.
  3. Remove the prop nut and washer. On a drive-pin setup with a sheared or broken pin, the manufacturer describes holding the shaft steady with a screwdriver blade in the slot at the end of the shaft, where applicable to the motor.
  4. On a drive-pin setup, rotate the old prop to a horizontal position to help keep the pin from falling out, then pull the prop straight off.
  5. On a drive-pin setup, if the pin falls out, reinstall it in the armature shaft and align the new propeller with the pin. For the MKP-24 D-shaped shaft, there is no pin; use the instructions applicable to that shaft and prop.
  6. Install the correct prop washer and prop nut for your motor.
  7. The manufacturer’s guide specifies tightening the nut 1/4 turn past snug, with a stated torque of 25–35 inch-pounds. Check the instructions supplied for your particular motor and prop before applying this specification.

Do not overtighten. Minn Kota warns that overtightening can damage the prop and, on drive-pin setups, bend the pin. Inch-pounds and foot-pounds are not interchangeable units.

Prop maintenance and vibration troubleshooting

Remove the prop to check for hidden fishing line

Minn Kota recommends removing the prop after every use to inspect for weeds and fishing line behind it. Debris may not be visible with the prop installed. Line and weeds behind the prop can damage seals and allow water into the motor. Disconnect power before every inspection.

Check the drive pin, where fitted

With the prop removed, inspect the drive pin for bending, damage or wear if your motor uses one. The MKP-24 D-shaped shaft does not use a shear/drive pin. Confirm the correct hardware for the specific prop and motor; do not assume hardware from a different kit is suitable.

If the prop vibrates

For applicable drive-pin setups, the manufacturer notes that removing the prop, rotating it 180 degrees and reinstalling it can sometimes reduce or eliminate vibration because props and shafts are not perfectly symmetrical. This is not a guarantee or a substitute for inspecting damaged components. Do not try to force a D-shaped-shaft prop into a different orientation. Disconnect power before making adjustments, and seek service if vibration persists.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy a prop based only on my motor’s thrust rating?

No. Check the full motor model, serial-number prefix, motor diameter and required hardware. Different motor generations can require different props.

Can I swap a Weedless Wedge for a Power Prop?

The manufacturer specifically identifies MKP-6 / MKP-2 and MKP-32 / MKP-37 as interchangeable pairs for compatible motors. Do not extend those pairings to other prop models.

Is the MKP-24 still available from the manufacturer?

No. The MKP-24 has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Contact us for help with an existing application. Its matching hardware kit is D / MKP-23, and its D-shaped shaft does not use a shear/drive pin.

Are MKP-24 and MKP-33 interchangeable?

No. Do not substitute an MKP-33 for a discontinued MKP-24 based on the shared 4-inch motor diameter. Their hardware and shaft arrangements differ.

Which props does the guide list for QUEST motors?

MKP-39 Weedless and MKP-40 Power props for the listed 4-1/2-inch QUEST Series lower units. Both use hardware kit 2992604. The MKP-38 is a different, non-QUEST application despite also listing a 4-1/2-inch motor diameter.

What is the difference between a part number and a replacement-kit number?

These can be different identifiers. The chart lists replacement/service kit numbers where available; for the QUEST props, it lists SKU 1378162 for MKP-39 and SKU 1378171 for MKP-40 as the ordering references. Verify what the listing includes rather than assuming every prop or kit contains the same hardware.

Why inspect behind a prop that looks clean?

Fishing line and weeds can remain hidden behind the prop and damage the motor seals. The manufacturer recommends removing the prop after every use to inspect that area.

Can you help identify an older motor’s prop?

Text 815 246 2535 with the complete motor model, serial number and clear photos. Older props may be discontinued, so contact us to confirm fitment and availability before ordering.
