Contact Lakeside Marine & Service with your Minn Kota trolling motor's serial number to identify the correct replacement lower unit and shaft assembly. Match the replacement to your motor's voltage, such as 12V, 24V, or 36V, and shaft length, such as 45, 52, 60, or 72 inches. These are examples, not interchangeable options for every model. We can use your serial number to help confirm the correct assembly for your specific motor.

On brushed Minn Kota Terrova, Ulterra, and Ultrex trolling motors, the shaft is pressed into the center housing. You cannot replace just the bare shaft. For some shaft lengths, you can purchase a shaft and tube assembly and reuse your existing lower unit components. We recommend replacing the seals when taking this approach. Otherwise, the complete shaft and lower unit assembly must be replaced.

On QUEST models, the shaft can be replaced separately. We also recommend replacing the seals where the lower unit meets the shaft.

Minn Kota lower unit assemblies are not generally interchangeable across voltage, thrust rating, shaft length, or brushed and QUEST motor designs. Replace your assembly with the correct match for your motor. A non-QUEST brushed trolling motor cannot be converted to QUEST by installing a QUEST motor assembly because the components do not match.

Limited changes may be possible, such as changing the built-in transducer or, in some cases, the shaft length. A shaft-length change may require additional parts.

For someone who is mechanically inclined, replacing a Minn Kota motor and tube assembly is generally straightforward. The work involved depends on which replacement assembly you purchase. Disconnect the trolling motor from power before beginning any repair.

Complete motor and tube assembly: Remove the control head from the top of the shaft, then slide the old shaft and motor assembly out of the steering housing. Install the new assembly by reversing the removal process.

Shaft and center housing assembly: Follow the same removal process, but also disassemble the old lower unit and transfer the reusable lower unit components to the new shaft and center housing assembly. Use the correct new seal kit when reassembling the lower unit.

Lower unit assembly only: You will also need to install the shaft. Use the correct new seals where the lower unit meets the shaft. This involves more work than replacing a complete motor and tube assembly.
