Minn Kota Trolling Motors | Freshwater & Saltwater

Match the exact motor's stated water-use rating to your environment. Do not assume freshwater models are saltwater compatible. Riptide models are designed as saltwater options, but protection and capabilities vary by model; verify exact rating and instructions.

Loaded weight and operating conditions matter. Length is not guaranteed fit; voltage is not capacity or runtime.

12V lead-acid deep-cycle battery tiers: Good—Group 24, 70–85Ah; Better—Group 27, 85–110Ah; Best—Group 31, 95–125Ah. Relative guidance, not runtime promises; source recommends at least 110Ah for best results. Not universal lithium advice. Traditional 12V series banks use two batteries for 24V or three for 36V; configurations vary, follow the manual.

Bow: measure from mounting surface to waterline. Transom: top of transom to waterline. Shared endpoints do not guarantee unique fit. Bow chart gap 10–16 inches: consult exact manual; do not infer.

Source rough-water note: add 5in to waterline measurement; bow hand-control note: add 9in. Do not combine into a formula. Separate reference points: center motor section at least 12in submerged and prop tip at least 12in below waterline; follow model instructions. Operate with engine trimmed down. Minn Kota boat size guide.

Plan mounting surface, deployment/stow path, prop clearance, wiring access and cover/launch clearance. Quick-release puck styles leave a low-profile base; slider styles move the motor inboard for clearance and removal for storage/service. Match motor and environment. QUEST may require a reinforcement plate per deck/model instructions to distribute torque; not universally mandatory and distinct from quick release. Shop quick-release brackets.

Hand-control models

• Endura — basic tiller operation.
• Endura Max — variable-speed tiller.
• Traxxis — adjustable tiller/transom operation.
• Riptide Transom — saltwater tiller option; verify rating.
• Riptide Maxxum — saltwater tiller option.

GPS-equipped options

• PowerDrive
• Riptide PowerDrive
• Terrova / QUEST
• Ulterra / QUEST
• Ultrex / QUEST
• Riptide Terrova / QUEST
• Riptide Instinct QUEST

GPS Spot-Lock holds position rather than directly steering like a tiller; versions/electronics vary. PowerDrive pedal-only lacks Advanced GPS. Ulterra/Instinct automate stow/deploy, unlike lever/ramp or Lift-Assist; not all GPS motors auto-deploy.

AWG wire sizes by one-way extension length from batteries to motor leads. Maximum amps are intermittent, not continuous. Shared loads affect sizing; exact manual controls.

Assumptions: ≤2 bundled conductors outside engine spaces, 105°C insulation, ≤3% full-power voltage drop. For wiring changes/over 25ft extensions use a technician. QUEST 24V row retains supplied 36V breaker rating; verify manual. MKR-27 60-amp circuit breaker only where manual specifies compatible 60A protection. Shop trolling motor plugs, receptacles and circuit breakers.

Battery care and safety

Recharge lead-acid within 12–24h, maintain full charge, use matched charger, separate bank from outboard starting battery. Avoid shorts, observe polarity, prop in water before power-on, disconnect when unused/charging, tighten terminals, use ventilated compartment. Incorrect higher-voltage wiring can cause explosion; use qualified technician.
